As Chairman and CEO of the dairy industry’s most iconic heritage brand, Gregg Engles leads 3,300 Borden Dairy employees across 12 plants and nearly 100 distribution branches. An entrepreneur, investor, attorney and philanthropist, Gregg has been a visionary in consumer-packaged goods for more than three decades, leading large-scale turnarounds and strategic transactions that have transformed the industry landscape.

Since 2017, Gregg has served as Founder and Executive Managing Partner of Capitol Peak Partners, a Denver-based private equity investment firm that in July 2020 purchased majority controlling ownership in Borden. Prior to Capital Peak, Gregg was Chairman and CEO of The WhiteWave Foods Company, a high-growth food and beverage company with sales of $4B+ across four branded platforms: Plant-Based Foods and Beverages (Silk, Alpro, So Delicious and Vega), Premium Dairy (Horizon and Wallaby), Coffee Creamers and Beverages (International Delight), and Fresh Foods (Earthbound). Under Gregg’s leadership, WhiteWave sold to Danone S.A. for $12.5B.

From 2002-2012, Gregg was Chairman and CEO of Dean Foods Company, the largest processor and distributor of fluid milk in the United States and the former parent company of WhiteWave. He built Dean Foods through more than 100 transactions spanning 25 years, beginning with the acquisition of Reddy Ice from the Southland Corporation (former parent of 7-Eleven) in 1988 for $25MM.

Gregg earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Dartmouth College and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. He began his business career in Dallas after serving as a clerk for Judge Anthony M. Kennedy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

He previously served on the Board of Trustees for Dartmouth College and the Board of Directors for TreeHouse Foods, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the Hockaday School, the Southwestern Medical Foundation, and the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. He was also formerly the Chairman of the Tate Lecture Series at SMU, a member of the Yale Law School Association, the Young Presidents’ Organization, the Dallas Citizens Council, and the International Dairy Foods Association.

Today, Gregg resides in Denver and serves on the Board of Directors for Chipotle, Danone S.A. (ENXTPA.BN) and GCI Liberty Inc. (NASDAQ: GLIBA).
